Some useful things to consider when deciding on the number of delegates to train are:

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) guidelines on leave and absence state that it is essential that provision is made at all times at work. Employers need to ensure adequate provision for annual leave and other planned absences of their First Aid personnel. Employers should also consider what cover is needed for unplanned and exceptional absences such as sick leave or special leave, due to bereavement.

All First Aid training certificates are issued to the individual, so we would recommend that you train as many staff as you can spare on the day(s) of training. This will ensure that you have enough cover and fulfil your statutory requirements.

According to the HSE website, the HSE may prosecute in cases where there is a significant risk, a disregard for established standards or persistent poor compliance with the law. More information can be found in the HSE’s Enforcement Policy Statement PDF.

The Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981 require employers to provide adequate and appropriate equipment, facilities and personnel to ensure their employees receive immediate attention if they are injured or taken ill at work. These Regulations apply to all workplaces including those with less than five employees and to the self-employed. What is ‘adequate and appropriate’ will depend on the circumstances in the workplace. This includes whether trained First Aiders are needed, what should be included in a First Aid box and if a First Aid room is required. Employers should carry out an assessment of First Aid needs to determine what to provide.

The Regulations do not place a legal duty on employers to make First Aid provision for non-employees such as the public or children in schools. However, the HSE strongly recommends that non-employees are included in an assessment of First Aid needs and that provision is made for them.

Employers are responsible for the provision of appropriate First Aid equipment, facilities and First Aid personnel in respect of their employees – this includes schools, as they are workplaces. Although the Regulations do not require employers to provide First Aid for anyone else, the HSE strongly encourages employers to consider non-employees when carrying out their First Aid needs assessment and to make provision for them.

Unlike the big providers like, St John Ambulance and The Red Cross, all our courses are regulated by Ofqual, under their Regulated Quality Framework (RQF) and accredited by the FAA and FutureQuals – both external organisations.

Within the First Aid Awarding Organisation Forum’s Assessment Principles, there is a requirement that all trainers must hold an assessing qualification to be able to assess learners on regulated First Aid qualifications. All our trainers hold at least a Level 3 Award in Education and Training (RQF), which includes the required assessing (Internal Quality Assurance (IQA) Assessor) qualification, meeting the requirements of the Assessment Principles.

YES – The HSE require various contact hours for First Aid courses, which we can deliver back-to-back, or broken down into individual days/evenings to suit you. Our courses can also be run in-house, or at a location of your choice for up to 12 delegates.

Sure, no problem. Our trainers are available 7 days a week, up to 22:30 hours in the evening, so we can work to a time that best suits you. Our courses can also be run in-house, or at a location of your choice.

The First Aid at Work and Emergency First Aid at Work certificates are valid for three years, as are most of our other regulated course certificates. Review the Course Information and validity of the various certificates by checking out the individual course info. Annual refresher courses are highly recommended by the HSE.

No problem. If your certificate has been lost, damaged or kept by your previous employer, please contact us on 01865 664 999 or email us at firstaid@tacticaltuition.com with your full name, company name, date of course (do not worry if you can not remember the exact date) and the email subject – ‘Replacement Certificate’.

There may be a small charge for a replacement certificate.

The space must be clean and tidy, please, with enough space for the number of delegates booked, to sit comfortably along with space for the trainer and the training equipment. Ideally, a data projector/screen and a flip pad would be useful too, but it is not a problem if you do not have these, as the trainer can bring them.
