ARE YOU AT RISK? The deadliest heart attack is known as a WIDOW MAKER – the symptoms you need to know
It occurs when there is a complete blockage of the left artery feeding the heart with blood.
A HEART attack is a very serious condition, but did you know some are more severe than others?
The most serious heart attack you can suffer is known as a “widow maker”.
It occurs when there’s a complete blockage of the left anterior descending (LAD) artery, one of two main arteries that brings blood to the heart.
When it is blocked due to a build up of plaque it is most often deadly, hence the name “widow maker”.
This is because it cuts off oxygen supply to a large part of the heart muscle, which can cause it to stop beating.
Director Kevin Smith revealed yesterday that he almost died after suffering a “massive heart attack” and that he had 100 per cent blockage of his LAD artery.
The 47-year-old Clerks, Dogma and Jay and Silent Bob star tweeted a selfie from his hospital bed, covered in tubes and shared how cancelling his show saved his life.
